Maaveran record break

Kollywood’s biggest ever hit Maaveran has yet another record in its kitty. This film has successfully completed 700 days run in Kurnool town in Andhra. This is a record for any film in the history of Telugu cinema.

  Maaveran wiped off its record by a huge margin and has set a permanent record. It will be too hard for any film to cross this mark as every big film is being released with too many prints and numerous theatres.

Maaveran will complete two years run by July 31st.

Vijay leaves China for Shanghai International Film Festival | Kavalan Movie

Vijay’s Kaavalan directed by Siddique has been selected for the Shanghai International Film Festival. It is one of the most distinguished film events in Asia. Kaavalan is one among the 200 films that were selected from nearly 2500 entries from all over the world. The 14th edition of this festival will get started on June 11th.

Director Barry Levinson, who won an Academy award for his Rain Man starring Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise will head the panel of judges. Vijay’s film will be screened on the 12th, so he will be flying out to Shanghai to participate in this event. He will be rubbing shoulders with some of the most talented people on the globe.

Aamir Khan - Shahrukh Khan clash deflected!

You all know that Aamir Khan has started shooting for a thriller with Kareena   and Rani Mukherjee. But what you don’t know is that the movie was supposed to release around the same time as Shahrukh Khan’s much-hyped Don 2. Well, the clash has thankfully been prevented now.

Aamir Khan’s untitled film, which is a thriller and stars two wonderful Bollywood actresses Kareena and Rani Mukherjee, might have given competition to Shahrukh Khan’s Don 2.

Whenever there is a box office clash between two biggies, it’s obvious that the revenue gets divided, and that’s why the producers don’t want to release their mega-budget, much-publicized films with other movies. No matter who’s the star! And as Reema Kagti’s film is a low-budget one, the makers want to play safe. In fact, both the films are coming from the same production house -- Farhan Akhtar-Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment. So why would they take the risk?

But Aamir might love to do that, so he is planning to release his own film Delhi Belly with Don 2. Delhi Belly is a small-budget film and is produced by Aamir Khan Productions. The movie got stuck in production stages as the producer Aamir became busy with wifey’s Dhobi Ghat. The film is directed by Abhinay Deo and has Imran Khan and Shenaz Treasurywala in lead roles.

Aamir has a 100% hit record with his production films (save for ‘Dhobi Ghat’), so there is no reason why he wouldn’t like to take the risk. Aamir Khan’s Ghajini and Shahrukh Khan’s Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi released around the same time in December 2008. Both the films were hits, but Aamir scored better.

First talkie film in Indian cinema, celebrates its 80th anniversary

March 14, 2011, is a very special day for Indian film industry. It marks the 80th anniversary of Alam Ara - the first Indian film with voice.

 

On this day in 1931, Alam Ara debuted at the Majestic Cinema in Mumbai causing such frenzy among the audience that the police had to be called in.

Alam Ara also featured the first song of Indian film, De De Khuda Ke Naam Par, sung by an actor Wazir Mohammed Khan. The film was directed by Ardeshir Irani, is a love story between a prince and a gypsy girl and was based on a Parsi play.

A period fantasy, the film was about an ageing king of Kamarpur, and his two queens, Navbahar and Dilbahar, and their rivalry when a fakir predicts that Navbahar will bear the king's heir.

The sad part, however, is that as a result of a fire at the National Film Archive of India at Pune in 2003, the last surviving print of Alam Ara was collapsed, and the film is no longer available in its original format.

The film was shot mostly in the night to avoid capturing the noises of the day. Alam Ara was made using microphones that had to be hidden from the camera's range.

Spider Man-Musical Slapped Around, Fined by Federal Agency

Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark has given new meaning to the term              "offensive."

The chronically plagued Broadway production was issued three citations Friday by the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Health and Safety Administration for workplace saftey violations that were joined to four injury-causing accidents that occurred during preview performances last year.

And OSHA wants more than free tickets for its troubles.

The suggested total fines amount to $12,600. It's a relative drop in the bucket compared to the production's $65 million budget, but still...

The New York State Department of Labor cited the show's producer, 8 Legged Productions LLC, for two safety violations last month after aerialist Christopher Tierney plunged roughly 20 feet into an opening next to the stage during a performance and need surgery for cracked vertebra.

OSHA said in a statement that the cast had been exposed to "the hazards of falls or being struck during flying routines because of improperly adjusted or unsecured safety harnesses."

Additionally, not enough preventative measures were in place to shield cast and crew from "moving overhead rigging components," such as the one that struck actress Natalie Mendoza during the first preview performance. She ultimately dropped out altogether.

At this time, spokesman Rick Miramontez said, Spider Man: Turn Off the Dark "remains in compliance with all government agencies and continues to adhere to all safety protocols."
